Ronald Reagan, the gold standard for conservative libertarian presidents, was a registered Democrat for 40 years. He also was the president of the Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood, ground zero of the hardcore left. Reagan explained, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me.” As he described in his autobiography, one of the main reasons he eventually distanced himself from Hollywood was the growing communist membership largely fueled by a Soviet-led effort to infiltrate the American centers of influence.
