One of the main reason our politicians are so divided and refuse to work together can be traced to the fact the vast majority of them are lawyers. Think about it — this is a profession that is expertly trained for years to argue. They’re trained to defend one side of an issue regardless of their personal feelings or the merits of their case. They’re taught to win at any costs, which in many instances means if you can’t discredit a case, you go after the credibility and character of the other side. When they get into politics, it is no different. They argue the liberal or conservative talking points, and when they can’t win on logic, they engage in character assassination of their opponents.
