Did You Know?
Abraham Lincoln lived perhaps the most tragic life of any U.S. president. He lost his true love and soulmate, Ann Rutledge, to typhoid fever, then subsequently married a brutally abusive and nagging women with various mental illnesses that made his years a living hell. He had no formal education and lived in abject poverty most of his life, in large part because he so undercharged his clients in his law profession. He failed in business and politics most of his adult life. If that wasn’t enough, three of his four kids died tragic deaths before reaching the age of 18. However, would Lincoln have become such a great leader if he had gone to Harvard and been handed everything on a silver platter? Could he have understood the suffering of slaves and the sorrow of families who lost loved ones in the Civil War without the challenges he lived through? So many things in life happen for a reason, and it just might be that bitter disappointments are shaping our character and toughening us up to accomplish something great.
