Dan Rather National Guard All Over Again

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone on the Right planted the photoshopped image of Kamala in a McDonald’s uniform to show how easily her supporters and MSM “journalists” will fall for anything on the web. And since most Democrat ads and politician speeches mention either nationwide abortion bans or Project 2025, it doesn’t matter how much alternative information you show them–they will believe what they want to believe.
For those who don’t remember the 2004 Dan Rather story, the CBS anchor tried to spring an October surprise using a story about George W. Bush’s service in the Air National Guard. It relied on obviously-fabricated documents produced in Microsoft Word, a technology that didn’t exist at the time of Bush’s service. The fact the documents were released a few weeks before the election should have set off some alarm bells in a true journalist’s mind, but accuracy is never a factor when it comes to mainstream media hit pieces. To this day, Rather claims his story was true, proving you don’t need the internet to fool the weak minded.

Random Thoughts of the Day
In my mind, being for or against immigration based solely on its effect on political power is wrong on so many levels. I personally am against illegal immigration since it overwhelms the welfare system with already out-of-control deficit spending, overpopulates the country, and creates a segment of society that lives outside the legitimate work, school, and justice system. All of these create the potential to turn the U.S. into one of the shithole countries the immigrants fled in the first place.
I do feel bad for most immigrants as they’re simply trying to make a better life for themselves and their families, and with labor shortages in many American industries, you would think there would be a compromise solution to benefit all involved. But that’s never going to happen when you allow unfettered access and throw people around to wherever cities you think will help gain you the biggest political advantage. Any discussions of amnesty rewards those who broke immigration laws and creates additional incentive for more illegals to flood the country.
Rush Limbaugh once proposed a compromise solution – amnesty for illegals on the condition they can’t vote or receive any welfare benefits for 25 years. As you can expect, Democrats screamed like stuck pigs and objected almost as forcefully as when anyone suggests requiring an ID for voting. I’m guessing most immigrants would wholeheartedly embrace such a compromise, but you know it will never happen as Democrat party leaders care about nothing but political power. However, they might want to rethink their strategy. Trump is gaining fast with Hispanics. Some day soon they may be subjected to all the negatives of illegal immigration without the lifeline to their political power they so manipulatively crafted.

Being interviewed for an immigrant visa in 1970, in Sydney, Australia. “You won’t be able to vote.” “You won’t be able to sit on a jury.” “Hand on the bible, and swear that you will register for the draft within six months of arriving in the US.”
“If you become dependent on government monies, you can be deported.” “If you have a bank account that money can be taken to help pay for your deportation.” “If you own real estate that can be sold to pay for deportation.”
This after a three hour medical check-up the previous day, including a chest xray for TB. And police paperwork from every place I’d lived for the previous three years, showing no problems. I’d spent 18 months on the island of Borneo. Before I left there I had an interpreter take me to the local police station. He explained what I wanted and why. (Ever had your fingerprints taken with a purple ink stamp pad? It takes days for it to wash off.)
Plus: “Where are you going to live?” “What sort of work will you look for?” And other similar questions.
Arrived in the US June 16, 1970. Started full time employment the day after the July 4th weekend. Was granted a half day off in the first week of December, and registered for the draft, at age 29.
Am I happy with what is happening on the southern border today? No. (If I gave a full answer, I’d be banned from commenting ever again.)
(I’m Australian, my wife is American. We were married in Singapore in 1969. We’re still together.)
Just a quick comment on “privatization.” I don’t know the details of all that is going on in Argentina, but I have seen plenty of “privatization” moves in the US by Republicans. What they essentially entail is handing over the same government-protected monopoly position and power to one of their well-connected business friends so they can now profit without threats of competition. Sorry, that is NOT what should happen when one speaks of eliminating government provision of services. Government should simply STOP providing the services and allow people to contract with whatever competing service providers that chose to participate in the market. That may mean that NOBODY wishes to purchase those services and that is also fine. The problem is and has always been the PROTECTED MONOPOLY, not who is running it.
